Heritage Pharmacy Program
Heritage Health Solutions is in its twelfth year of providing pharmacy first fill prescription services to well in excess of one million military veterans at over 700 VA medical clinic locations across the country.
The Wilmington VA Pharmacy has been using this service since 2014 to provide our Veterans who see their providers at the CBOC’s faster access to emergently needed medications. Effective Feb 5, 2018, we extended this service to include after-hours Emergency Room and inpatient-discharges to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
The Wilmington VAMC and our surrounding CBOC’s Heritage participating pharmacies will fill a 5 day supply of a new medication, a complete course of antibiotics or a medication that is available in a unit of use (i.e. inhaler). These medications are filled at no cost to the Veteran. When the Provider sends a patient to a participating Heritage pharmacy, they will also send a prescription to the Outpatient Pharmacy here at the Wilmington VAMC if the Veteran needs more than a 5 day supply of medication. The Pharmacy will process the prescription and send it to the patient via UPS to ensure they receive the new prescription within the next 5 days.
