COVID-19 Vaccinations & SAVE LIVES Act

If you are an enrolled Veteran who received a vacinnation outside of the VA, please report it to your primary care team.

The SAVE LIVES Act of 2021 has expanded eligibility to COVID-19 vaccine for ALL Veterans, including non-enrolled Veterans, as well as some spouses and caregivers of Veterans.

  • Veterans
  • Spouses of a Veteran
  • Caregivers of a Veteran
  • Recipients of Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) benefits

Visit our COVID-19 webpage for more information such as scheduling appointments, enrollment and frequently asked questions.

Call us before visiting!

If you’re experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath, please call us at 1-800-461-8262 (press 3) before visiting—even if you already have an appointment. Or you can sign in to My HealtheVet and send a secure message. You may be able to get diagnosed and receive care through VA telehealth without having to come in at all.

Visitation
To ensure the health and safety of our Veterans, staff and visitors, we’re currently following CDC guidelines and limiting visitors for patients receiving care at Wilmington VA Medical Center. Limiting outside visitors helps us protect older Veterans and those who already have health issues.

If you want or need a family member or friend to be a part of a scheduled health care visit, please let us know ahead of time so we can safely prepare for their participation. We do make an exception for Veterans who qualify as an end-of-life "compassionate case."

If you visit a VA health care facility, you will be asked screening questions. Learn more about what to expect, and stay informed on the latest VA updates on coronavirus.

Community Care Resources

With the passing of the MISSION Act in 2019, the VA greatly expanded Veterans’ access to health care by allowing them to receive care in community health facilities when certain eligibility requirements are met.

To avoid confusion and possible delays in claims processing, the Wilmington VA Medical Center Community Care team put together some resources to assist you should you have questions about how to take advantage of these benefits and contact information to assist you in addressing any issues.

You can download our Community Care Resources document to learn more about:

  • Eligibility
  • Urgent Care
  • 72-Hour Community Care Inpatient and Emergency Room Notification Hotline
  • Billing Issues Related to Community Care

For all other Community Care-related questions, please call Wilmington VA Medical Center’s dedicated Community Care line below between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Please leave a message if calling Community Care after hours.
