The Wilmington VAMC’s Eye Clinic provides full medical eye care through in integrated team approach by staff optometrists and ophthalmologists.
Both sections have robust academic affiliation and provide clinical experiences for these programs, contributing to maintaining the high level of patient care for patients seen in either ophthalmology or optometry.
Patients enrolled in our system are able to make appointments by calling the clinic directly at extension 4665, it is not necessary for patients to obtain a consult from primary care or other specialty providers at Wilmington VA.
Ocular emergencies are initially evaluated in the Emergency Department (ED) with referral to the eye care specialists in the clinic when necessary.
The optometry section consists of staff optometrists, residents, students and technicians. The optometry section provides comprehensive medical eye care including visual and ocular health assessments. Patients in need of specialty eye care for surgical or laser intervention are seen by the ophthalmology staff. Some of the ophthalmologic sub-specialties available include retina, cornea and glaucoma care.
The clinic is also equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to allow for more accurate and early diagnosis and management of diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Our front desk staff is available to answer questions, receive telephone calls and schedule appointments. Our administrative staff implement and maintain clinic schedules, employee resources, contract and building maintenance, and ensure policies and procedures are in place.
